The next Moto G is officially called the Moto G8 and while we don’t get the vanilla flavour just yet, Motorola has launched the Moto G8 Plus. The Moto G8 Plus has been launched in India at a competitive price of Rs 13,999 for the sole variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The phone seems to be a good upgrade over the Moto G7 Plus, at least on paper.

Moto G8 Plus specs and features

Speaking of specs, the Moto G8 Plus comes with a 6.3-inch 1080p+ IPS LCD display with a waterdrop-style notch. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage which is also expandable. The dual SIM phone runs near stock Android 9 Pie software out-of-the-box. The Moto G8 Plus is further backed by a 4,000mAh battery and supports 15W fast charging.

On to the cameras, the Moto G8 Plus comes with three rear cameras – a 48MP main camera, a 16MP ultrawide-angle camera and a 5MP depth camera. On the front, the Moto G8 Plus comes with a 25MP selfie camera.

The Moto G8 Plus will be available in Cosmic Blue and Crystal Pink colours and start selling in India from October 28. At its price, the Moto G8 Plus will compete with phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro and the Realme XT – both of which boast of attractive glass design and 64MP quad rear cameras. The Moto G8 Plus may seem lacking a bit when it comes to hardware, against these phones, but it will be banking on its near stock Android experience with minimal bloat or unwanted apps to make a selling. Motorola has tried to differentiate the Moto G8 Plus with its fancy new gradient design which is said to be also water-repellant – the phone has a rear mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.

Motorola has also launched the more affordable Moto G8 Play and Moto E6 Play phones in Brazil alongside the Moto G8 Plus – they are not coming to India at this point of time.
